This is one of the nicest mahogany Victorian age Empire style servers you will ever find. It dates from the 1890s and features beautiful, ornate acanthus carved pillar posts and beveled mirror along the backsplash as well as more detailed acanthus carved pillar posts down both side of the front, ending in fantastic claw feet.
It also has rope braided molding along the top of the case, underneath the dovetailed drawer, and all around the base. A particularly unique feature is the curved glass china section in the bottom base. The overall size of this rare piece is 48" wide a 20.5" deep by 37" high to the top of the case, and 49" high to the top of the backsplash. The beveled glass mirror on the backsplash is 35.5" wide x 5.5" high, and is in excellent condition, having been re-silvered. The dovetailed drawer is 38.5" wide x 16" deep and 3.5 high, and has the original pressed glass pulls. The curved glass china cabinet section has a full mirror back and is approximately 44" wide x16" deep x 25" high, with a fixed shelf at 13" high. This is a very unusual piece. What a wonderful opportunity to have a sideboard not just for storage, but displaying beautiful china or other items. Thus the finish is in excellent condition. The only issues to note with this piece are that there is no key though the door remains closed on its own and can be opened without the key, and there is about a 3-inch piece of trim along the lower right side of the door that is loose (see the photo) but should be possible to be re-glued. The antique furniture Im offering is in wonderful condition for its age, but one cannot expect it to be without the wear and character imparted by over 100 years of use. I will always call out any obvious damage, but will not describe every small scratch or ding. Please enlarge and study the photos carefully for the best understanding of condition, and let me know if you have specific questions. I can also provide the contact information for a blanket wrap shipper I used recently. Many of these companies have general routes they follow so base their scheduling with you on that timing. If there is damage during transit, any claim is strictly between you and the shipper. That said, the majority of the antique furniture in my house was delivered by blanket wrap shippers, and I never had a problem.
